The Electric Swede at Swedish Motors

Polestar, Once the Racing Arm and Performance Division of Volvo, Now a Cool Electric Car Company

Polestar is a Swedish automotive brand from Volvo, established in 1996 as Flash Engineering, a Swedish motorsports team. It was later rebranded as Polestar Racing and was acquired by Volvo Cars in 2015. Polestar initially gained recognition for tuning Volvo gasoline-powered cars for enhanced performance, similar to "Mercedes AMG" and "BMW M Series." The company is headquartered in Torslanda, just outside Gothenburg, Sweden.

Today, Polestar operates as a standalone performance electric vehicle manufacturer and represents Volvo's all-electric offshoot brand. The Polestar 2 shares many of its EV technologies and underpinnings with the Volvo XC40 Recharge SUV.

The interior of the Polestar 2 adheres to a textbook Scandinavian design aesthetic, characterized by its modern, clean, minimal, and stylish appearance. It offers an upscale feel without unnecessary complexity. The full-length panoramic roof contributes to an open and adventurous cabin ambiance.

While the Polestar 2 features a sleek tablet-style display in the center stack for radio, climate control, and other functions (even playing YouTube videos when parked), it retains physical buttons and knobs for various controls. Additionally, there is a separate driver's display screen in the instrument cluster providing driving information. According to Motor Trend, "The Polestar cabin is designed for the thoughtful driver. Is there another car interior that encourages such philosophical contemplation?"

Polestar's commitment to sustainability goes beyond zero tailpipe emissions. The company focuses on using eco-friendly materials extensively throughout its vehicles. The standard interior features entirely recycled materials, reflecting Polestar's dedication to reducing its environmental footprint.

Drivers seeking traditional luxury interiors may not find what they're looking for in the Polestar 2. However, those who value the luxury of a clear conscience may appreciate the use of recycled materials. Polestar's parent company, Volvo, has been an environmentally responsible company for decades, using recyclable materials in vehicle production.

Polestar also employs a unique material for its seats. The base material consists of 100 percent recycled yarn obtained from discarded plastic bottles. Since the material is made to size, it minimizes waste in the production process, unlike traditional seat coverings that require trimming.

One way to avoid a disastrous road trip is to make sure the vehicle you will be driving is running well. A 10-minute pre-trip check is a quick and easy way to help avoid the inconvenience of a breakdown many miles away from home. A pre-trip check to help ensure safety and reliability on the road is always a good idea, especially in winter.

I've been engaged in the automotive industry in one way or another for most of my life. At 15 years old, my first real job was pumping gas, washing cars, and helping keep Andy Long's Atlantic Filling Station in Shamokin, PA, clean and tidy and, of course, putting those little "Red Balls" on our customer's antennas. Remember the days when someone else put gas in your car, and the give-aways were abundant—no more Tiger Tails in your tank from Exon these days.

This month was possibly the most difficult one to deal with for everyone ever since the outbreak of COVID-19. April would typically be a time when friends and family come together to celebrate Easter or Passover, but that wasn't possible due to the current situation. Although the loss of these moments is disheartening during these uncertain times, we are putting the lives of our staff and the economies of the communities we serve first before anything else. We are taking all the precautions we can to protect you and our team. We are disinfecting our customer's vehicle inside and out before they are returned.

If you’re driving a late model vehicle, it's likely equipped with a direct fuel injection system.  Older vehicles with conventional fuel injection systems deliver fuel to the engine through injectors located in the intake manifold.  Newer vehicles with direct injection systems locate the fuel injectors directly in the combustion chamber of the engine; allowing the fuel to be atomized more effectively, resulting in increased fuel economy, power, and response.  The downside to this revelation in fuel injection technology is the potential for carbon-buildup to occur.  Because fuel no longer passes over and "washes" the back of the intake valves, carbon-deposits commonly form on the valve surfaces.
